Business Profile

MIND Active recognises that the increasing age of the population means that more older people are entering the care system, and more dementia sufferers are being cared for in their own homes.

These people, in order to feel valued and useful members of society, need to keep active, not only physically, but also mentally.

MIND Active seeks to complement and build on activities available within residential homes and to enable people living with dementia in their own homes to continue as part of the community. In this way we hope to enhance their lives, as well as those who are caring for them.

MIND Active supports meaningful activities with older people living in residential and nursing homes in Northumberland.

We provide activities in local community venues inviting several care homes to meet and enjoy lunch, music and opportunities to be with others to dance, sing or simply enjoy the atmosphere.

We also invite people with dementia and their loved ones from their own homes to join in with the community days, enabling them to share quality time together rather than respite apart.

The charity is based in Bedlington and operates across the South East corner of the region, supported by donations and grants.

The project's life enhancing activities help promote value, respect, understanding and involvement of marginalised people.

Donations help us to support hundreds of older people living in a large number of care homes as well as a growing number of people with dementia living in their own homes.

Our efforts also support the quality of life of involved carers in their workplace, and visitors and family can also feel a sense of satisfaction knowing their loved ones are engaging in meaningful activities and community interaction, keeping residents and people with dementia stimulated.

Every penny of our award winning charity is helping to make a difference.

"Its truly wonderful to see such an amazing project grow and make a difference to so many people. Well done to you all for the effort, hard work and drive that you put in to make this work. Without you many wouldn't have something to look forward too, be lonely, isolated and sadly neglected. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and to making a difference to our communities in 2014!"
